Here’s a note from Pete
Since George Marshall took the gamble to publish Nightshift back in 1996, the response to my little book has been a constant source of surprise to me.From the reviewsers who gave it the thumbs up to the people who bought it and helped turn it into a cult success to all kinds of people convinced me I’d done an okay job writing about my personal experiences on the most enigmatic underground dance scene that this country has ever spawed. The response fro those who understand what I’m ranting on about, means the most to me. All of you familiar with the northern soul scene, who tasted the unforgettable flavour of Wigan Casino. The Welsh soulies, Gary White and the Barrow soulies, Linzey Junior, Smila from Heywood, the Scottish and loads more.Ian Ford from Coventry who after countless laughs down the line took the trouble to turn up in Blackpool one weekend,to shake my hand and give me two storming cassette compilations. Mick Morrissey from Leyland who I met on a beach in Goa and Daryl Hargreaves, a guy I met at a Blackpool Mecca Christmas soul night who knew every word of Nightshift better than I did,who writes northern soul poetry and is still passionate about the music that has become part of him forever. And Steve, Tommy, Graham , Sue and George, Carl and Roly along with Glen Foster from The Neighbourhood, Roy Hinsley and the mad mod from Manchester who appears at every soul night looking like a Tamla Motown backing singer, complete with Raybans and sharp suit, and the Lancaster based artist Neil Thompson with his northern soul prints, equally dedicated and passionate about the scene he reflects so well in his limited edition art series. Check out his site if you think I’m kidding

Heres a quick outline of "who the hell is Frank Wilson"
Set in 70’s Blackpool, behind the storming beat of the Northern soul scene, “Who the hell is Frank Wilson” is a fast moving thriller featuring a bizarre cast of characters involved in one very special quest for an alternative holy grail, involving sharp dressed Brighton mods and violent henchmen the hero has his work cut out to stay in one piece, should be ok if he can just find a way to get the grand he owes the dealers,
With less than a ton and an oldies nighter at Wigan Casino coming up it could prove a problem
John King, Author
"I got into Pete's story quickly and it works well chugging along at a good pace. It is a powerful book, I can easily imagine as a good film".
Paolo Hewitt, Author Journalist
- "Pete's story is really pacey and exciting so my question is Who The Hell's Pete McKenna and more importantly should you read this book? As the man himself once sang - "Indeed You Should".
Mark Sargeant, Music Editor DJ Scootering Magazine
"Sums up the essence of the 'golden era' incorporating the seven esses - sounds, substances, scooters, skinheads, sex and seven inch soul gems. A fictional Journey back to the world's first superclub. A sizzling scintillating story".
Pete Haigh, DJ Feature Writer
"Pete's second opus is a mix of fact and fiction about 70's life in the northern soul underground and what you get is more Lock Stock and Northern Soul. Pete lets you live the life whether you want to live it again or just enjoy the ride. Only you can say and I wonder what Frank will think of it?"
IN THE BLOOD (coming soon)
The sequel to "Who The Hell's Frank Wilson" takes place in Blackpool 2004, continuing the everyday trial and tribulations of the Clarke family.
Crazy Larry, former house music legend banged up for dealing Class A is back on the streets hungry for the best things in life but Jonno, his older wiser brother, isn't having any of it.
He doesn't want to go the same way as his old man and kid brother and isn't afraid to admit it. "It's all changed now Larry. Five years away from the scene is a long time man and I've moved onto better things."
Crazy can't believe what he is hearing, in this dark tale of sibling rivalry set behind the house and northern scenes.
